In an interesting turn of events, star cricketers Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been named in Delhi’s probable squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. This announcement has surely got the cricket fraternity excited as they could see the two premier cricketers in action in BCCI’s most prestigious red-ball tournament.
After the current Test series against Bangladesh is over, the Men in Blue will play Test series against Australia and New Zealand, making for a busy few months ahead of them. Due to their importance to India’s Test team, Kohli and Pant might not play in the Ranji Trophy. Nonetheless, it would be extremely beneficial for the competition and its supporters if the two legendary cricket players could manage to find some time in between their hectic schedules.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) released a list of the 84 probables, which includes Navdeep Saini, Pant, and Kohli. Saini just finished an outstanding Duleep Trophy campaign. Ishant Sharma, a seasoned speedster who played for Delhi the previous year, was noticeably left off the roster.

Kohli has been included for the first time since 2018 in Delhi’s likely Ranji Trophy lineup. After winning an international series against New Zealand, Kohli played against Uttar Pradesh in the 2012–13 season, which was his final Ranji Trophy outing. Pant, meanwhile, entered the competition for the first time in 2015. He made headlines in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season when he hit a 48-ball century against Jharkhand, the fastest century in the competition’s history.

On October 11, Delhi is set to kick off their Ranji Trophy 2024–25 season against Chandigarh. Against Bangladesh, India will be playing a three-match T20I series during this time. Pant is anticipated to be involved in the game, even though Kohli has stepped away from the shorter format. On October 16, nevertheless, India plays its maiden Test against New Zealand. It seems unlikely that Kohli and Pant will play in the Ranji Trophy opener as a result.
