Musheer Khan, a young player, broke his arm in an Uttar Pradesh traffic accident. As a result, he will miss some Ranji Trophy matches as well as the forthcoming Irani Cup. The 19-year-old, who recently finished second in the Duleep Trophy against India A, was supposed to play for Ranji champions Mumbai in the Irani Cup, but the accident has prompted Mumbai to omit him from their preparations.
The cricket player was reportedly traveling to Lucknow for the Irani Cup with his father, Naushad Khan, from Kanpur. The accident occurred as they were traveling, though the specifics have not yet been made public. In the meantime, Sarfaraz Khan, his brother, is in Kanpur for the second Test between Bangladesh and India.
“He did not go to Lucknow for the Irani Cup with the Mumbai team. When the tragedy occurred, he was most likely traveling to Lucknow with his father from Azamgarh, a source told The Times of India.
Musheer Khan noticed by the selector
Musheer’s outstanding performance in the Duleep Trophy opener put him on the selectors’ radar. He was selected Player of the Match in the match and assisted India B in defeating India A, but the team was unable to maintain its momentum in the next two matches. Musheer was nevertheless given serious consideration for the India A squad.
He had an extremely strong U19 World Cup campaign and performed well for India. In his nine first-class appearances to far, he has amassed 716 runs at an average of 51.14. Musheer scored a half-century against Tamil Nadu in the semifinals, a century against Vidharbha in the championship match, and a double-century against Baroda in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Ranji Trophy.
