IND vs BAN 2nd Test, Day 4 Highlights: Belligerent India on front foot, as Bangladesh with a difficult task for final day

At the end of the fourth day, which was entirely India’s to win, Bangladesh would not have anticipated to be hedged into the predicament they were in.

After the game was postponed for two days in a row due to a wet outfield, the visitors took 107/3 at the beginning of play. It took just 31 deliveries for the first man to fall, when veteran Mushfiqur Rahim misjudged a fullish delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, causing his furnishings to be disturbed.

After hitting a few boundaries, Mominul Haque appeared the most confident while Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were all removed. Just before lunch, Mominul finally mentioned a perfect thirteenth century in the Test.

In the second session, Bangladesh could only manage 9.2 overs before the final wicket was claimed by Ravindra Jadeja, who took his first wicket of the innings. With the caught and bowled, Jadeja reached his 300th Test wicket, placing him second fastest to the milestone.

The Indian openers wasted little time at all, taking the lead with 233 runs. From the beginning, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma were quite clear about their motivation, and they went all out. India reached 55 in just 3.5 overs, but the captain was the first to be removed. The hosts not only mentioned the quickest team fifty in Test cricket history, but also the fastest team hundred.

It was surprising that team management chose not to send star batsman Virat Kohli, as Jaiswal seemed set to record the fastest century by an Indian in the red-ball format (74 deliveries by Mohammad Azharuddin). Instead, he fell for 72, putting Rishabh Pant to the crease. The runs kept coming in at a nearly constant pace, and Kohli did a superb job of explaining why Pant was put out to the middle.

While batting on 47, Kohli was mercifully removed from the game by Shakib, who took his third wicket of the innings. Raising the stakes himself, KL Rahul produced an amazing half-century before succumbing for 68. He looked like his peculiar self. Despite the lower middle-order players’ best efforts, India declared to have a go with the ball at 285 runs.

After a hard 11-over session, Ravichandran Ashwin removed Shakib and the night watchman, Hasan Mahmud, from the opposition, setting up an exciting final day of play in which Bangladesh trailed by 26 runs.
