Viewing the side Bangladesh fielded an almost-expected starting eleven based on their previous T20I performances, whereas India fielded a young team that made a few debuts at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, which was also playing its first international match.
Bangladesh was sent to bat first by India. In the opening over, Arshdeep Singh struck accurately and removed Litton Das for a cheap run. Shortly after hitting Hardik Pandya for a traditional maximum in the preceding over, Arshdeep claimed his second victim, Parvez Hossain Emon, on the first delivery of his second over.
Before Varun Chakravarthy emerged victorious from the tap he received in his first over of his return to T20I cricket, Mayank Yadav, the much-anticipated speedster, began his international debut with a maiden. Hridoy struggled to gain traction during his stint in the middle. Bangladesh was struggling halfway through. Soon after, Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper, collapsed. Mehidy Hasan Miraz did his best to anchor the innings, but he was unable to find any help. In the last over of his spell, Hardik finally got into the act and finished with a wicket.
Mehidy was never given the opportunity to break away, and because of the well-organized Indian attack, he finished 35* off 32 deliveries without losing. In 19.5 overs of play, the man who began the damage concluded it by taking his third wicket of the innings and bowling Bangladesh out for 127. The joint-top wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2024 was India’s most economical player with an economy rating of 3.65.
With multiple boundaries to start each of their innings, openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson appeared to take the game away from Bangladesh in India’s flaming reply. But a bad decision made by the southpaw while dashing between the wickets ended his innings. Without wasting any time, T20I setup skipper Suryakumar Yadav in and got right into his trademark fireworks. After scoring a rapid 29 off 14, he had done his job, and India was comfortably positioned at 71/2 at the end of the sixth.
After Samson was out, Hardik entered the bat and hit a boundary with the first ball he faced. The great all-rounder, who stormed into 39* off just 16 balls as a youthful Indian squad destroyed a Bangladeshi side that never looked on it from the off, seemed eager to finish things off. He used his physical force and swagger while playing some of the blows.

Hardik, the most expensive bowler of the evening for the visitors, tore apart Taskin Ahmed. Nitish Kumar Reddy, another debutant, other with Mayank, saw the game through, needing 15 deliveries for his 16 runs. With 49 deliveries remaining, India defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead.
