‘Neither has Bangladesh’- Murali Kartik’s epic counter to Tamim Iqbal’s ‘Mayank Yadav hasn’t touched 150’ remark

On October 6, Mayank Yadav made his India debut against Bangladesh in the inaugural Twenty20 International. After more than five months, the bowler was returning to competitive cricket after recovering from an injury. He bowled the entire four overs allotted to him, giving up 21 runs and taking just one wicket. While representing the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2024, the pacer stole the show with his incredible speed.

In the first T20I, however, the right-arm pacer altered his speed rather than relying only on it. With one wicket in the second Twenty20 International, he gave up thirty runs. Tamim Iqbal, a former opener for Bangladesh, emphasized that Mayank hasn’t reached 150 kmph in the series. Former Indian spinner Murali Kartik responded to the veteran’s remark by stating that none of the spinners from Bangladesh had done so.

“In this series, Mayank Yadav has not reached 150,” Tamim remarked during commentary.

Bangladesh hasn’t either, Kartik retorted.

Mayank, a 22-year-old who hit 156 kmph in one of the league games, was in rampant form for LSG in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The young player was sidelined due to an injury sustained during the competition, but he returned to action with his debut for his country. Murali Kartik handed out his debut cap to him.

In the meantime, former Indian bowler RP Singh believes that Mayank is presently in a “developing phase”. He encouraged pacer Akash Deep to go to Australia in 2024–25 for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“Akash Deep belongs in Australia, in my opinion. His bowling style is more suited to the conditions in Australia. Mayank Yadav possesses speed, which is a crucial component of fast bowling. There are further facets to it. He needs to gradually acquire new abilities and variants. Speaking to Jio Cinema, RP Singh stated that Mayank was still in the development stage.

“Players’ patience and skill are put to the test in a test match. Time permits. It is necessary to play a lot of the domestic cricket that Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep have played.
