Ahead of the start of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh talked about his chat with an Australian icon. On November 6, 2024, the on-going day-night game got underway.
Harbhajan spoke on his discussion with Ricky Ponting over the Punjab Kings while providing commentary as a member of the Hindi crew during the match.
As Punjab ki team kaise banayi hai, aaj baat yeh hui ki maine toh yeh pucha. Upar toh baat hui nahi puraane cheezo. I asked him how he was being seen by the PBKS team today. The old days were not discussed. He (Ponting) remarked, “You look better than ever, buddy.” “So, I told him that I’m trying to stay in shape and get back out on the ground, even if it means using the microphone,” Harbhajan said.
On the pitch, Harbhajan Singh and Ponting have been bitter rivals, which is interesting.
Both of them have been involved in some very heated conflicts in the past while serving their respective countries. Starting in 2013, both of them were members of the same Mumbai Indians team. Over the course of 40 innings, Harbhajan has bowled Ponting 627 deliveries, averaging 38 and getting him out 12 times.
On Day 1, Australia takes charge after India is shot out for 180.
In terms of the events that have dominated the current match thus far, Mitchell Starc’s outstanding display of red-ball bowling killed six of the Indian hitters. With the bat, Nitish Kumar Reddy excelled once more and led the scoring. As India collapsed for a pitiful score, the only other contributions were a couple of 30s and 20s, respectively.
Australia has responded in a rather subdued manner thus far. Usman Khawaja is the only wicket they have lost as of this writing, though. Apart from their lone wicket thus far, India has bowled good channels but has failed to penetrate the Australian batting order.
