On Day 2 of the ongoing Adelaide Test, star Australia batsman Travis Head was once again at the top of his game. Notably, India would be playing as opponents in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) during this day-night match. He tormented the Indian bowling lineup on Saturday with his free-flowing stroke-making, as he often does.
Head upped the ante and kept the scoreboard moving at one point when Australia (AUS) had taken a slim lead against Team India. The 30-year-old took matters into his own hands when Steve Smith was fired, blasting his way to yet another century in day-night Test history. Head hit the milestone a ball faster this time, surpassing his record 112-ball stay. The Adelaide-born player also hit 17 boundaries and four sixes while he was at the crease.
Travis Head eventually overtook Adam Gilchrist, the former Australia batting and wicketkeeping legend, on the elite list of six batters against India after scoring 140 runs off 141 balls. Notably, Gilchrist has hit 10 sixes while Head has hit 12 thus far on his way to his century. Speaking about the total number of sixes hit, Matthew Hayden, a former batting star who is now a broadcaster, leads the record with 24. The next greatest, Michael Clarke, who has 14 sixes to his credit, is ten sixes away.
Australia takes the lead thanks to Travis Head’s century.
Speaking of the current pink ball Test, Australia closed with a massive lead of 157 runs against India, riding high on Travis Head’s incredible century. They scored 337 runs in their second inning. Mohammed Siraj, a pacer, cleaned Head up with a scorching bowl, ending his run fest.
He was dropped twice throughout his daring effort, but he was fortunate to get lucky twice when batting in his seventies. A thick edge passed Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma to the first slip after Siraj first missed a good chance off Ravichandran Ashwin’s ball. In response, Team India got off to yet another poor start, losing both openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul early on.
After Team India lost half the team in an attempt to progressively reduce the lead gap, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy are currently at the crease. India was remained 29 runs down at stumps on Day 2 with a final score of 128/5 on the board.
