In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, three Test matches are over. After Australia won the second Test in Adelaide and India won the first Test in Perth, the third Test in Brisbane ended in a tie. After three games, it is clear that Mohammed Shami, the Indian team’s star bowler, is not playing.
Shami has not been considered for selection since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, but he has just returned to local cricket and appears to be playing at a high level. To play in international matches, the pacer must first receive approval from the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE, formerly the National Cricket Academy), Bengaluru.
Nevertheless, there has been no clarification regarding the claims that claimed Shami will be travelling to Australia to play for the Indian side in the Boxing Day Test match. India captain Rohit Sharma took the lead in discussing the same topic and Shami’s possible involvement.
It’s about time someone from NCA spoke about him, in my opinion. He is recuperating at our national cricket academy there. It is those men who must come forward and provide us with an update,” Rohit Sharma told reporters at the Gabba.
Although I am aware that he plays a lot of cricket at home, there have also been some grievances raised regarding his knee. The last thing you want is for a player to arrive and then leave the game in the middle. “You are aware of what occurs when such an event occurs,” he continued.
That is not a risk we want to take: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma also discussed how the Indian squad wants to be absolutely certain of Shami’s fitness before taking any chances, which is contingent upon the NCA’s approval.
“Unless we are absolutely certain, we don’t want to take that chance.,” We won’t be taking any chances. However, as I stated during the previous press conference, the door is open. Rohit added, “I will be glad to have him if those guys at the NCA think it’s safe for him to go and recover and play.”
