Champions Trophy 2025: England announce 15-man team, Jos Buttler named captain

Recently, England announced their team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Jos Buttler, a wicketkeeper-batter, has been named the team’s captain for the major tournament. In February 2025, a few weeks before the eight-team competition, the same 15-man team that was chosen by the selection panel will also go to India for the three ODIs.

Star cricketer Ben Stokes, meanwhile, was unable to make the squad because he is now being evaluated for a left hamstring issue that appeared during the most recent third Test match against New Zealand. On Sunday, December 22, the England Cricket Board (ECB) issued a media release confirming Stokes’ unavailability.

Additionally, the announcement stated that the English team will depart for the white-ball trip against India on January 17 and arrive four days before the opening match of the five Twenty20 Internationals.

“Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as he continues to be assessed following a left hamstring injury sustained during the third Test match against New Zealand earlier this month,” the ECB said in a release.
