A Test series between Australia and India always has some on-field drama, which provides a glimpse of the rivalry between the two countries in international cricket. Sam Konstas and Indian great Virat Kohli recently engaged in some drama during the Boxing Day Test as well.
The two-time world champion and the debutant managed to bump shoulders at one point during the match. Many experts and commentators, who believed that Kohli purposefully shoulder-shouldered the 19-year-old opener during the match, were against him.
In the meantime, Ricky Ponting, who was providing live commentary, savagely attacked Kohli for starting the altercation with Konstas, who was making his debut.
The Delhi-born player purposefully slammed his shoulder into Konstas during the altercation, according to the three-time World Cup winner, who also recommended that fielders stay far away from the batter throughout the game.
Soon after Ponting’s remarks, a video of him and Harbhajan Singh fighting on the pitch during the 1998 Coca-Cola Cup reappeared. Ponting was seen in the video shoving himself onto the former Indian spinner after the latter outplayed him. He also exchanged some acrimonious words with the player before heading back to the pavilion. This caused internet users to discuss Ponting’s hypocrisy in commenting on a transgression he committed while serving as an active international.

Regarding the historic match, it had one of the greatest meetings between Australia and India, in which Sachin Tendulkar gave India a chance with an incredible 143 off just 131 deliveries. Even though Australia won the match, Tendulkar’s brilliant performance at Sharjah, which kept the Men in Blue in the game till the very end, is still regarded as one of the best knocks in ODI format.
Under the direction of Mohammad Azharuddin, the team ultimately exacted retribution in the final and won the tri-series after losing the game.
