Steve Smith, the former captain of Australia, hit consecutive hundreds against India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In order to help the cricket player regain his rhythm, the senior batter switched roles prior to the major series, going from opening to number four. In the fourth Test at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground, Smith looked perfect in the middle and reached his century in 167 balls. Smith, 35, struggled in the Perth and Adelaide Tests, but he scored 101 runs in the first innings at Gabba. Virat Kohli, the senior batsman for India, thanked him and gave him a pat on the back shortly after the century.

Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne each scored half-centuries, giving Australia’s top order a great start. Smith took advantage of the fact that it made it easier for him to settle down, especially on Day 2. Because Indian bowlers gave him enough of space, the Sydney-born player was able to establish his dominance in the middle. On Day 2, former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Mark Nicholas discussed India’s poor strategy, pointing out that their weak play simply eliminated the visitors from the match.
Additionally, Pat Cummins, who appeared to be in excellent form during the opening session of Day 2, was unassailable by Indian bowlers. It didn’t work out since Mohammed Siraj was dismissed after just one over and Akash Deep was unable to pose a threat. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and veteran batsman Virat Kohli were spotted encouraging the players before of the game, especially discussing body language.
Steve Smith capitalised on that by punishing the Indian team in the middle and scoring his 34th century in Test cricket.
Although his form was questioned during the Adelaide match, the former captain demonstrated the proper attitude in the final two games, as the visitors lacked a clear strategy to handle Smith’s unconventional batting.

Australia can easily win the match if the Rohit-led team doesn’t put in a lot of effort to take the final four wickets quickly. The Indian bowlers have so far performed mediocrely on Day 2, and this must change right away if the squad is to return to competition.
