Fans have a lot to remember during Day 3 of the current fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. The moment that Nitish Kumar Reddy, then 21 years old, struck his first Test century at the MCG in front of his friends and family, however, stands out above all others.
In sweet moments, Nitish’s family was photographed getting together with former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar following his century. Nitish’s father, Mutyalu Reddy, showed respect for the great batter by bowing down and touching Gavaskar’s feet in a healthy gesture.
Gavaskar then proceeded to give Nitish’s father a hug. On social media, the same video clip has been going viral.

I was unable to speak: Ravi Shastri
It is noteworthy that former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri was in the commentary box when Nitish Kumar Reddy reached his century. Shastri too became emotional and started crying when she saw the images of Reddy’s tearful father writing history.
Speaking of the incident, Shastri disclosed that he became emotional and acknowledged that seeing his father made it impossible for him to speak. When the broadcasters displayed his (father’s) pictures, I became tearful. “The character, discipline, and application he has demonstrated, as well as the sacrifice he has made to allow Nitish to play cricket,” Shastri was cited by Indian Express.
“That’s why Irfan (Pathan) and you (Jatin Sapru) were the only ones speaking. “I couldn’t speak,” he continued.
The Indian side appears to have benefited greatly from Reddy’s century. The visitors have shown remarkable ball skills in the second innings and are trying to keep the Australians to the lowest possible score and chase down the total.
