On Day 1 of the fifth Test match between Australia and India, Sam Konstas, a 19-year-old Australian top-order batsman, got involved in a heated argument prior to the final delivery.
In response to the incident, head coach Andrew McDonald stated that higher authority should make a decision.
Since there have been no complaints against the Indian team, it is obvious that their attitude is okay as there have been no penalties or fines. Whether or not this is appropriate behaviour is up to the match referee. I was checking in with Sam when I spoke with him. They all poured in, demonstrating how terrifying the Indian celebration was.
As cited by The Indian Express, Andrew McDonald said, “I just wanted to make sure he’s okay.”
The final ball of the day was at the non-striker’s end, and Konstas was there for the uninitiated. At the striker’s end, the Indian team claimed that Usman Khawaja was taking too long to mark his guard for the subsequent ball. Bumrah did not take it well when Konstas made sure to say a few things to him after he had voiced his displeasure. Bumrah semi-charged towards Konstas after taking Khawaja’s wicket, as the squad and the entire slip cordon gathered around Konstas to celebrate the dismissal.
Konstas has been in the middle of an intense argument before, which is interesting. Recently, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Virat Kohli shoulder-shouldered him during his Test debut.
Day 2 ends with India leading by 145 runs.
The Indian bowling unit’s all-around brilliance helped the visitors finish the day at 141 for six wickets after sweeping Australia for 181. A 61-run burst from Rishabh Pant gave an innings that never really got underway enough impetus. India’s goal would be to increase the number of players before concentrating on how to win and tie the series.
