After a few years, the Indian squad lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25). After winning the first Test, India lost the matches in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, and Pat Cummins‘ Australia proved to be too much for the visitors to handle.
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar spoke out on the squad and the way the Indian team performed during the series. According to him, it’s also important to discuss India’s performance in the home series against New Zealand. In addition, Gavaskar acknowledged that if the higher-ups want to win trophies in the future, they must be prepared to make the difficult choices.
“What I observed were technological flaws. What did you do against New Zealand in India if you have been making the same mistakes? I’m not just referring to this series; I’m also talking about the New Zealand series. We have not qualified for the World Test Championship as a result, as the following cycle will begin in June. We should be prepared for it from now on. We will have to make difficult choices if they are necessary,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Sunil Gavaskar : How many Indian athletes have scored hundreds?
Sunil Gavaskar also brought attention to the players’ lack of desire to score a lot of points. He questioned which players helped to change the match’s mood by scoring hundreds or even half-centuries during the series.
How many hundred-point scores have been made by Indian players? Nitish Kumar Reddy’s century is the only one aside from the inaugural Test match, which had two hundreds. What percentage of players achieved half-centuries? You may argue that hitting a century is difficult, but how many players attempted to change the outcome with half-centuries? It didn’t happen because there wasn’t enough application or determination, which are necessary in Test cricket,” he continued.
