When Shafali Verma, a star cricket player for India’s women’s team, talked about being cut from the Indian squad for the November trip to Australia, she was clearly upset. It is important to note that Shafali had already had a difficult time before the series against Australia because her father had only two days prior had a heart attack.
She subsequently spoke out about how difficult that period was for her and how, in order to save her father’s health, she had kept the news of her discharge a secret.
It’s difficult to move on from it. My father had a heart attack two days before to my dismissal from the squad, so I didn’t want to tell anyone. I kept the news from him till he recovered. The hospital was where he was. A week later, Shafali Verma told the Indian Express, “I told him.”
When Shafali Verma father was informed, he did not give himself enough time to recover; instead, he began using Shafali for practice.
Her father served as her first coach, assisting her in reliving her early years and regaining her footing. Sanjeev Verma immediately returned to her job.
At times as children, we may forget our strengths, but our fathers never forget. He assisted me in doing the exercises and drills that brought back memories of my early years. I worked on playing on-drive and straight drive during the knocking drills that we performed when I first started. To recall how good you are at something, you sometimes need to work on it. These are my strengths,” Shafali added.
Moreover, it appeared that Shafali Verma had been enjoying the benefits of her training. Since being dropped, Shafali has participated in two domestic tournaments, scoring three hundreds and five fifties in 12 games, totalling 527 and 414 runs.
