Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shared the Indian dressing room, and Yuvraj Singh encouraged them to participate in the Ranji Trophy 2024–25 second phase. The former cricket player for India emphasised the value of domestic cricket and said that players have to seize the chance to represent their home teams.
Following their lacklustre performance in the just concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit and Kohli’s positions in India’s Test team have come under scrutiny. Virat and Rohit both scored 190 runs (nine innings) and 31 runs (five innings) against the formidable Australian bowling attack. The Asian powerhouses gave up the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade after losing the series 1-3.
“Cricket at home is significant. I’ve always believed that you should come play domestic cricket if you have the time and aren’t playing. That’s the most effective approach to obtain game time and practice. If you have the time and are healthy, I think domestic cricket is really essential,”
Yuvraj Singh was quoted as saying by India Today on Thursday.
While Rohit practiced with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team, Kohli was listed as one of Delhi’s probables for the remaining Ranji Trophy. Regarding their involvement in the upcoming Ranji Trophy round, there hasn’t been any formal confirmation yet.
For the Men in Blue, Kohli and Rohit are anticipated to play key roles in the upcoming ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy that follows. The three ODIs between India and England are scheduled for February 6, 9, and 12. On February 19, however, the Champions Trophy begins.
India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand are all in Group A. Conversely, South Africa, Afghanistan, England, and Australia are in Group B. Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates will host matches in the eight-team competition.
