The Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers are currently playing in the Big Bash League (BBL 2024–25) Qualifier at the Bellerive Oval. Early in the game, a fan in the stands tried to catch a six but dropped it, clearly upset about the lost chance.
The Sydney Sixers chose to field first after winning the toss to start the game. Ben Manenti, Kurtis Patterson, and Mitchell Perry were added to the Sixers’ roster, making three alterations. Riley Meredith and Peter Hatzoglou, on the other hand, returned to the Hurricanes to bolster their bowling attack.
In the meanwhile, the event happened during the Hurricanes’ third over of the game. In excellent form, Mitchell Owen hit a 75-meter six off Ben Dwarshuis’ bowling with a well-executed pull stroke. A spectator made a spectacular attempt to catch the ball as it went high into the crowd, eager to claim a remarkable catch.
The fan tried his hardest, but he stumbled and lost his balance, allowing the ball to escape his grasp. The fan was devastated not by the fall but by the disappointment of missing a catch, even though the entire crowd was stunned when he stumbled. The fan returned to his seat after shaking his head, clearly disturbed.

Sixers need to win the BBL qualifier with 174.
Owen’s 36 runs off of just 15 balls during his innings helped his team get out to a fast start in the game. He hit three sixes and as many fours. Even though Owen and Matthew Wade were taken out early by the Sixers, Ben McDermott and Caleb Jewell kept the team afloat. After that, Tim David’s cameo of 25 and McDermott’s crucial knock of 42 rounded off the innings. Consequently, Hobart finished with a respectable 173 points.
