In the seventh round of the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy, Delhi and Railways faced off against one another. While commentating on Day 3 of the match, which ended up being the final one, former Indian domestic star Rajat Bhatia was caught up in a humorous event.
He suddenly found himself reciting the argument that broke out between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli during the 2013 Indian Premier League season. The way he expressed himself and the levels of irony he included in his statements were what made them humorous.
“The main reason people know me is since I broke up a fight between two people. That is more what they recall about me than my performances. These days, one has a pavilion, and the other has a stand (laughs). Every team experiences minor conflicts. Some used to be in Delhi’s Ranji team as well. However, you don’t have to keep doing that. “One is the head coach today, and the other is an important member of the team,” the former all-rounder for KKR said on radio.
In Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli and Gambhir got into a furious altercation after the former was removed in the tenth over of the run-chase.
In order to calm the two skippers’ emotions, Rajat Bhatia, who is also a Delhiite, stepped in and helped.
That match was won by Royal Challengers Bengaluru by eight wickets, and Gambhir’s 59-run first-inning effort went unrewarded.
By an innings and 19 runs, the home team prevailed in the match between Delhi and Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The star Indian batsman’s return to the country’s top domestic red-ball tournament was unmemorable. For the entire fifteen deliveries when he was at the crease, Kohli’s resistance was breached.
After seven games, Delhi’s Ranji Trophy 2024–25 campaign came to an end with 21 points. Delhi’s triumph over Railways was just their second of the season. It’s noteworthy that Delhi is making their first Ranji Trophy knockout appearance since finishing second in the 2017–18 tournament.
