Head Coach Monty Desai and the Cricket Association of Nepal have decided to part ways as the latter’s two-year contract expires. In a statement, the board said they had made the decision not to extend his contract.
“Head coach of the men’s national cricket team Shri Mrugang Jagdish Desai ‘Monty Desai’ was appointed with a tenure of two-year.
The agreement has come to an end which we all are well aware of,” Chhumbi Lama, a spokesperson for the CAN,
It should be noted that the Cricket Association of Nepal has made the decision not to extend the contract. It wasn’t a snap choice. An earlier board meeting had opted against extending his contract. Since the choice was more of a consensus, there is no need to see him adversely.
Manoj Prabhakar left his position as Nepal’s head coach in December 2022 after a four-month tenure, and Desai, who was born in Mumbai, had previously worked with national teams such as Afghanistan and the West Indies. Despite the previous head coaches’ inability to manage the dressing room, Desai’s techniques gained widespread popularity as Nepal qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
