The data shows that Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka and Shubman Gill of India have proudly risen to the top of the most recent ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, just ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Shubman Gill has taken back the top spot in the batting rankings, surpassing former Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
The charismatic right-handed batsman has already held the top spot twice; the first time he did so was at the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. A major factor in Gill’s quick ascent to the top was his recent century against England in Ahmedabad.
With 23 rating points more than Gill, Babar Azam currently sits in second place, while Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, is still in third place, 45 points behind his countryman.
Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand is now in fifth place, and Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka, who was ranked eighth, has made a huge eight-spot jump to make it into the top 10. Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of Pakistan, also advanced six spots to 15th place, marking a career-high position. In the meantime, Salman Agha (48th), Devon Conway (35th), and Glenn Phillips (41st) have clearly dominated the rankings.
Maheesh Theekshana, the world’s top-ranked ODI bowler, defeated Afghanistan’s stunning Rashid Khan from the bolwing unit. He became the first Sri Lankan spinner to win the No. 1 ranking thanks to his outstanding performance against Australia, which included a four-wicket haul in Colombo that put him ahead. With Maheesh Theekshana leading by just 11 points, Rashid now holds back and will be keen to regain the position throughout the Champions Trophy competition.
Kuldeep Yadav of India has secured the fourth spot, Keshav Maharaj of South Africa has moved up to the sixth spot, and Mitchell Santner of New Zealand has moved up to the seventh spot. Santner has risen to sixth place in the ODI all-rounder rankings, while Afghanistan spinner Mohammad Nabi remains at the top.
