The Pakistani Intelligence Bureau has warned security forces about a purported plot by terrorist organizations, such as the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS, and other Balochistani groups, to kidnap and hold hostage foreign nationals attending the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The terrorist organization has been found to target Arab and Chinese citizens.
According to reports, the ISKP is in charge of guarding ports, offices, residential areas, and airports—basically, locations that people from the aforementioned nations commonly visit. It is thought that the organization wants to move the abducted people between safe homes, especially at night, in order to elude security personnel, according to a story that India Today cited.
Security concerns have caused ongoing problems with Pakistan hosting big international tournaments in the past.
The nation has been troubled by two significant incidents in the past: the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore and the 2024 attack on Chinese engineers in Shangla.
Authorities have been informed about the strikes in strategic areas by Afghanistan’s intelligence agency, the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI). For the uninitiated, Al Azaim Media published a 19-minute film in 2024 asserting that cricket was a Western intellectual warfare instrument directed at the Muslim people.
The terrorist organization said that the sport fostered nationalistic propagandist attitudes, which were in opposition to Islam’s jihadist philosophy. They even went so far as to accuse the Taliban of aiding the Afghanistan cricket team in their attempts to advance in the games.
