The early elimination of the Pakistani team from the Champions Trophy 2025 has drawn a lot of criticism. After losing to New Zealand and fierce rivals India, the team abruptly left the competition, disappointing all of the supporters and analysts who had been counting on them to do well—especially given they were the event’s hosts.
Several experts expressed their opinions over the dynamics of the Pakistani team, and Wasim Akram has now joined the chorus. In addition to criticizing the bowling attack, the 58-year-old expressed his thoughts on the players’ diet and expressed amazement that a tray full of bananas had been brought for the players during the India match’s drinks break.
There was a tray full of bananas for the players during what I believe was the first or second drinks break. The saying “Even monkeys don’t eat so many bananas” highlights this point. It’s their food, too. Akram stated on a post-match broadcast that “Imran Khan, our captain, would have thrashed me over it.”

Pakistan has been playing white-ball cricket for ages: Wasim Akram
The former captain of Pakistan also discussed the recent cricket style that Pakistan has adopted, calling it outdated, during the broadcast. He also called for “drastic steps” to be done, saying that young, bold cricket players to join the team.
“Strong action is required. We have been playing white-ball cricket, which is ancient, for years. This has to stop. Bring youthful, fearless cricket players to the team. if five-six modifications are required. Make it, please. For the next six months, you continue to lose. It’s okay, but from now on, start assembling your World T20 2026 team,” he continued.
