On Wednesday, February 26 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Hayley Matthews achieved a match-winning half-century against UP Warriorz, regaining her batting form.
The captain of the West Indies would have hoped for a successful batting performance against the Warriorz on Wednesday after only scoring 32 runs in the first three games. Matthews lost her partner Yastika Bhatia in the fourth over after limiting the team captained by Deepti Sharma to 142/9. Although she had trouble timing the ball up front, she managed to keep her wicket.
The all-rounder took the attack on Grace Harris in the sixteenth over, cutting loose. Matthews blasted a short delivery to the mid-wicket boundary after Nat Sciver-Brunt gave her the strike off the first ball. To make matters worse, this was also a no-ball. Matthews danced down the track and slogged across the line as the next ball went for a maximum. She parried the boundary over the ropes before the deep mid-wicket defender could stop it.
To reach her half-century, Hayley Matthews removed a single off the next delivery.
Both went for boundaries after Sciver-Brunt handed her the strike for the final two deliveries. Matthews attempted to drive strongly into the off-side in the first one, but he was only able to get a thick edge past the keeper. The next delivery was another half-tracker, which the 26-year-old pulled through at mid-wicket.
