Kevin Pietersen, a former English cricket player and one of the Delhi Capitals’ former players, was recently announced as the team’s mentor for the 2025 Indian Premier League season. On Thursday, February 27, the franchise made the formal announcement on social media. This occurs little over three weeks before the 18th edition of the prestigious league kicks off.
Behind the scenes at DC, the former cricketing great will work alongside head coach Hemang Badani, assistant coach Matthew Mott, bowling coach Munaf Patel, and director of cricket Venugopal Rao. After playing for the team for two seasons (2012 and 2014), Pietersen said he was excited to be reunited with them. He referred to Delhi as his “home” and expressed his feelings on X.

In 2012 and 2014, Kevin Pietersen played eight and eleven games for DC (then known as the Delhi Daredevils), scoring 305 and 294 runs, respectively.
In his second season with the Delhi-based team, he scored his first IPL century. Notably, he suffered a knee injury in 2013 and was unable to play.
“Jumping into this new position as a Capitals mentor is a fantastic opportunity. In addition, I’m eager to join the team, collaborate closely with the boys, and do everything in my power to assist us take home the big prize. Pietersen revealed in a statement, “I have amazing memories of playing for the Delhi team in the IPL, and I’ve been able to keep that enthusiasm for the team even as a broadcaster over the years.”
Pietersen will be playing in the Premier League for the first time. In 2016, he made his final IPL appearance. Pietersen has maintained a personal relationship with Kiran Kumar Grandhi, the chairperson of the GMR Group, since he led Delhi in 2014, the season he struck his first and only century in the event.
