Ravichandran Ashwin’s childhood Indian Premier League team, the Chennai Super Kings, lavishly welcomed him back to Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. In a very touching video, they chronicled Ashwin’s journey from a little boy who aspired to play at the legendary Chepauk to eventually being given the opportunity to represent the now-joint-most successful team in IPL history.
With a group of kids sprinting by Ashwin and the famous cricket player passing the excited kids while wearing the CSK shirt for the 2025 IPL season, the video was finished in a way that made it a suitable full-circle moment.

Ashwin’s spent seven seasons as a CSK player.
He took 80 wickets in 97 games (94 innings) during his tenure with the team that currently holds the most titles, at an economy rate of 7.05. The most wickets Ashwin has ever taken (20 in 16 innings) was in the 2011 edition. In 2010 and 2011, he played a key role in the Men in Yellow’s championship victories.
As CSK went out of business in 2016 and 2017, Ashwin continued to represent four other teams at the end of 2017. Ashwin played for four different teams: the Delhi Capitals, the Rajasthan Royals, the Punjab Kings, and the Rising Pune Supergiant. The Indian cricketing star, who just retired, has played 24 Champions League Twenty20 matches for the team outside of the IPL.
RR did not retain Ashwin prior to the tournament, and he was not repurchased at the IPL 2025 super auction in Jeddah. At the auction, Ashwin was bought by CSK for INR 9.75 crore. He will be joining up with former Indian and CSK teammate Ravindra Jadeja, who has been with the squad since the 2018 season, among other people.
