Shashank Singh, the star batter for the Punjab Kings, recently thanked the team for featuring him on Google’s list of the ninth most searched athletes worldwide in 2024. Last year, the batter, who had a breakout Indian Premier League (IPL) season, talked about how important Punjab Kings were to his success.
The team decided to pay INR 5.5 crore to keep him for the 2025 Indian Premier League because of his performances. Singh gained popularity off the pitch as well as acclaim on it for his outstanding achievements. He gave the Punjab-based team credit for his rising fame as his name appeared on Google’s list of the most searched athletes globally in 2024.
Google publishes a list of persons who are searched worldwide, but I was unaware of this. Really, it’s a major thing. I’d rather celebrate in comfort. On the inside, however, I’m pleased that people from all across India and the world are looking up my name and understanding what I do. The Punjab Kings are responsible for making it feasible. Even though there are a lot of excellent and elite cricket players, Punjab Kings has always supported and believed in me. “Yes, I did put in a lot of work too,” he stated in a press statement.
I’m eager to meet Shreyas because we’ve played cricket together. Shashank Singh
Singh is eager to get back again with his Kings teammates, especially the recently named captain Shreyas Iyer and the young player Suryansh Shedge, as the new season approaches. Singh talked on reuniting with the two players he shared the dressing room with during the DY Patil T20 Cup.
I have played junior cricket with Shreyas, therefore I am looking forward to meeting him. Our relationship is strong, and we played together in the DY Patil T20 Cup. This season, I can’t wait to play under his leadership. As a member of the same DY Patil team, I am also thrilled to see Suryansh again. He has a lot of promise for the Punjab Kings and the nation,” Shashank Singh continued.
The right-hand hitter had a fantastic 2024 season, amassing two half-centuries and 354 runs at an average of 44.25 from 14 games. He made his breakthrough against the Gujarat Titans, smashing an undefeated match-winning innings of 61* off 29 deliveries. After playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, he thought back on his innings.
“Being a part of this franchise last year and getting kept is a huge blessing for me. The innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, respectively, made me feel fantastic. The fact that I was the one standing there when the team won was a unique feeling. I hold very special memories of the support I received from the management last year. It’s safe to say that I have an emotional attachment to the franchise. To keep this trust, I’ll make sure to follow all the proper procedures I followed the previous year,” the 33-year-old continued.
