During India’s (IND) Champions Trophy 2025 match versus New Zealand (NZ) in Dubai on Sunday, March 2, rising spin sensation Varun Chakravarthy led to an unnecessary boundary being given up. In Match 12 of the main event, the strange incident happened in the fourth over of New Zealand’s run-chase.
It was directed toward the mystery spinner, who was positioned at mid-on. The pace-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya overstepped and had to re-bowl the second delivery of his second over. Will Young toe-ended the free-hit delivery on Chakravarthy’s left side, in the mid-on area.
In an attempt to grab the ball, which was not really needed, Varun Chakravarthy raced backwards. The ball sped forward after touching his fingertips. It then bounced off Chakravarthy’s leg and traveled all the way to the barrier.
The ball managed to slip across the boundary despite Shubman Gill’s efforts to stop it from approaching from mid-off. Hardik, the veteran Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli were all completely shocked by the course of events that transpired as a result of this specific occurrence.

In the first innings, Iyer and Hardik lead India to 249.
When discussing Team India’s batting innings following their dismissal by New Zealand, it got off to a very rough start. Virat, Gill, and Rohit all left without making much of an impact on the scoreboard as the top-order was blasted away by the sixth over. The Indian side was in a difficult situation at that point.
However, the ship was steadied for India by Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer. Iyer advanced to his 22nd half-century even though Axar left in the 30th over. India reached 249/9 in 50 overs thanks to Hardik, who got off to a poor start but eventually picked up speed to amass 45 runs per ball.
