On Tuesday, March 4, New Zealand Women will host the ODI series against Sri Lanka Women. However, the White Ferns are having injury problems ahead of the three-match series. The Suzie Bates-led team already lacks a few well-known players.
In the most recent development, Kiwi pacer Hayley Jensen has been ruled out of the series, adding another player to the injury list. Notably, she was hurt during the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield final warm-up. Before the start of the series, the 32-year-old has been replaced by Fran Jonas, a young left-arm spinner. Due to her injury, Jensen’s availability for the T20I series was also called into question. Ben Sawyer, the head coach of the New Zealand Women’s team, provided an update on the Otago player in response to the worries.
Before the T20I series, Jensen will be reviewed. The physiotherapists will decide how she responds, but maybe she can recover in time. Sawyer said, “Jonas will arrive via plane tonight and join the squad in the morning.
The women’s ODI record of Hayley Jensen and Fran Jonas
In reference to Jensen’s performances in the 50-over format, the New Zealand fast bowler has participated in 35 games and claimed 28 wickets overall. She has a respectable economy of 4.94 even if her average of 35.78 is a little higher than normal. The Christchurch native collected 15 wickets in 10 games during her respectable season with Otago Women in the New Zealand One-Day Cup.
It’s noteworthy to note that Fran Jonas, Jensen’s replacement, has not been consistent in taking wickets despite having a respectable economy in the format. She only managed to take 17 wickets at an average of 47.70 and an economy of 4.63 in her 25 ODI appearances. In the One-day Cup, the 20-year-old spinner participated in nine games for the Auckland Women, taking ten wickets.
