In the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final match on Tuesday, March 4, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, Australia wasted a few chances to dismiss the dangerous Rohit Sharma.
On the second ball of the second over that Nathan Ellis bowled in the Indian innings, Rohit produced a spectacular pull shot that went the distance over mid-wicket. Rohit went for the cut after the right-arm bowler bowled the next delivery outside the off-stump, short and wide. Connolly had to get low to make the catch since the ball was dipping on him. He lost the chance, though, as Rohit received an early reprieve.
But Rohit’s good fortune in the early portions of the second innings wasn’t limited to this. In the third over, the India captain attempted to chip Ben Dwarshuis, but the ball sailed to the left of Marnus Labuschagne, who was positioned at mid-off, off the bottom of the bat. Labuschagne scampered to his left and executed a full stretch dive, just like Travis Head did to dismiss Rohit in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. But this time, the Australian fielder lost possession of the ball.

Cooper Connolly corrects Rohit by dismissing him in his opening over.
India lost Shubman Gill in the fifth over while chasing a target of 265 runs. When he attempted to dab a delivery from Dwarshuis to third man without moving his feet, he pulled it against the stumps and was removed for a single-digit score for the second consecutive time.
In an attempt to play constructively, Rohit attempted to slog-sweep Connolly. But the 37-year-old was unable to make contact because the ball was too full to play that shot. It was not long until the umpire lifted his finger. When Rohit requested the review, it returned three reds.
