At the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday, March 13, the Mumbai Indians Women defeated the Gujarat Giants Women by 47 runs in the Women’s Premier League 2025 Eliminator. This demonstrated their absolute superiority over the Gujarat team, extending their winning streak to seven games in Mumbai’s favor.
In fact, Gujarat had started the powerplay well, keeping Mumbai to just 37. From then on, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt spearheaded the home team’s attack. Mumbai was in a commanding position after their incredible 133-run partnership for the second wicket. After the aforementioned foreign players struck 77 apiece, captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave the innings a spectacular finale. At the completion of 20 overs, Mumbai was at 213/4.
When it came to bowling, Kashvee Gautam was the most effective opponent. In the end, she only let up 30 runs in her allotted four overs. Despite taking two wickets in her first game of the season, Danielle Gibson was costly. Priya Mishra traveled the park without taking a wicket in three overs, failing to meet her quota.
As far as the run-chase was concerned, the tourists had little to show. In their share of the first six overs, they lost a few more wickets than Mumbai, which hurt them in the match. Gibson had the highest score of 34. But she never appeared completely comfortable while she was in the middle. Bharti Fulmali and Phoebe Litchfield made contributions lower down the order with 31 and 30 off 20 balls, respectively, but that was about it.
The bowlers from Mumbai were outstanding. Particularly noteworthy was Amelia Kerr, who scored 2/28 during her four-over period. With the ball, Matthews was equally impressive, putting on a genuinely well-rounded performance. Her all-around performance earned her the Player of the Match award, and Mumbai advanced to the final for the second time in three years.
