CSK crowd is irritating and makes officiating difficult for umpires: Anil Chaudhary

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has long been known for its thrilling atmosphere at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) games. Anil Chaudhary, a former international umpire, has provided insight into the difficulties of officiating in such a demanding setting.

Chaudhary talked about his experiences running games in front of the fervent CSK supporters.

“For umpires, officiating a CSK match might be difficult. During the Cricket Predicta broadcast, he said, “The crowd noise is so intense that it affects the nerves connecting the brain to the ears, making communication difficult.”

The seasoned referee emphasised how the well-known Whistle Podu cry, which is a hallmark of CSK’s devoted fan base, may make decision-making challenging.

“Whistle Podu fans’ high-pitched, shrill noise can be very annoying in the stadium, especially for umpires.” It impairs judgement and makes it hard to hear edges or snicks,” he stated.

Chaudhary shared a humorous on-field story about a chat he had with MS Dhoni during a game. When Dhoni was batting, I once made a joke about how he could hear anything in that noise. “He simply returned the smile,” he claimed.

His views highlight the unrivalled fervour of CSK supporters, whose thunderous applause makes for an exciting—and occasionally overwhelming—experience for both officials and players.
