In Match 12 of the IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians (MI) finally showed their best with the ball as they destroyed the reigning champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Hardik Pandya was an excellent captain, and the MI bowlers carried out their strategies flawlessly, never allowing KKR to relax. MI had a great chance to record their first victory of the season when the visitors were bowled out for a pitiful 116 in just 16.2 overs.
Debutant Ashwani Kumar was the evening’s highlight, scoring an incredible 4/24 in three overs. He now holds the record for the most wickets taken by an Indian on his IPL debut. Hie easily outwitted the batters, giving the impression that he was an experienced IPL player rather than a rookie.
In the first over, Trent Boult removed Sunil Narine for a duck, drawing the first blood. Quinton de Kock was next cheaply dismissed by Deepak Chahar. MI’s bowling attack continued to contribute wickets, and KKR never bounced back from their dismal start.
The visiting team’s batting performance was forgettable. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi tried to consolidate after losing their openers in two overs, but they were unable to do so for too long. Manish Pandey and Rinku Singh, who were selected as Impact Players, started but were unable to make a significant contribution.
Andre Russell, who frequently saves KKR in these kinds of circumstances, was unable to supply any fireworks and was easily defeated by Ashwani. The team had some optimism thanks to Ramandeep Singh’s late appearance, but it was never going to be enough against the home club.
Pandya led his team with remarkable skill, making accurate field placements and bowling adjustments. His early introduction of Ashwani was a wise move. MI has a fantastic chance to win their first game of the season with a target of 117 to chase. They will be trying to get their campaign back on track after suffering two defeats.
