IPL 2025: Digvesh Rathi fined for bad action during LSG vs PBKS match

The Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler Digvesh Singh Rathi was fined 25% of his match fees and received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Tuesday’s match between his team and the Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Digvesh Singh acknowledged the Article 2.5 Level 1 offence and agreed to the Match Referee’s ruling.

When a Level 1 violation of the Code of Conduct occurs, the Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and legally binding.

The event happened in the third over of the chase in Match 14 of the current IPL 2025, with Punjab attempting to reach the 172-run total set by the hosts, Luckow. Rathi got Priyansh Arya to misjudge one in the air on the fifth delivery of the over, and Shardul Thakur finished with a straightforward catch. He received a fine and a demerit point penalty for making a disrespectful motion towards the batter to give him a farewell.

Rathi ended his 84-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer by taking another wicket in his last stint, this time dismissing the other opener, Prabhsimran Singh. Even yet, Punjab won the match by eight wickets and 22 balls remaining, losing only these two wickets.
