Akash Deep, a pacer, has joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad before of their Friday, April 4 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matchup against the Mumbai Indians (MI). After missing action since December 2024 due to a back injury, the 27-year-old fast bowler is now fully recovered. Given that LSG has been dealing with pace attack injuries, his arrival was timely.

The team had a poor start to the 2025 Indian Premier League, winning only one of their opening three games. Due to injuries, the team’s bowling section has been a big source of concern. In addition to a spinal stress problem, speedster Mayank Yadav has been battling a toe injury.
Due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear sustained in December 2024, Mohsin Khan will not be participating in the competition at all. Shardul Thakur will take his place. Despite returning from an injury layoff, Avesh Khan, another pace option, has not yet reached his best.
Due to a back injury, the 28-year-old was unable to play during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Since then, he and Jasprit Bumrah—who is also recuperating from a back condition—have been undergoing therapy at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
The fast bowler made one appearance during the 2024 season while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL.
Akash Deep has participated in eight IPL games since his 2022 debut, taking seven wickets.
At the IPL 2025 auction, LSG paid an incredible INR 8 crore to acquire Deep.
It is unclear if the pacer will be in the starting lineup versus MI despite having joined the LSG camp. Whether or not he is selected will depend on his match fitness and rhythm.
