IPL 2025: MS Dhoni’s 400th match, joins Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli in elite T20 club

As a captain, wicketkeeper, and finisher, MS Dhoni is a well-known name in cricket. After leading India to their first T20 World Cup victory in 2007, he went on to lead them to victories in the Champions Trophy in 2011 and the ODI World Cup in 2013. Despite his impressive career, Dhoni is still one of the most dangerous batsmen in the shortest version of the game.

MS Dhoni will play his 400th Twenty20 match today, April 25, in Chennai against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has amassed 7,566 runs as a middle-order hitter with a strike rate of 135.90 and an average of 38.02. In addition, he has struck 28 half-centuries. In T20 cricket, Dhoni’s highest score is 84*. It’s all about the numbers, though.

Most cricket players could only dream of the things that MS Dhoni has accomplished as captain. The right-handed hitter started his leadership career in the IPL in 2008, which relates to his T20 captaincy career. Since then, he has regularly guided his side into the playoffs and, for the most part, won championships. Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL championships, ten IPL finals, and twelve play-offs while serving as captain. In addition, he has two Champions League victories.

MS Dhoni has a particular place in his heart for the IPL finals in 2010, 2018, and 2023.

For the captain, these three seasons were especially eventful. After CSK lost five of their first seven games in 2010, his leadership was called into doubt. But they did more than just qualify; they took first place. The thrilling conclusion of the 2023 final made it possibly the most unforgettable.

A brilliant career filled with milestones and consistency

Dhoni has participated in 273 IPL games and amassed 5,377 runs at an average of 38.96. He has batted at a strike rate of 137.87 and recorded 24 half-centuries. Those are impressive figures for a middle-order batter. Both as a player and a leader, MS Dhoni has excelled. He will always remember this milestone as he plays his 400th Twenty20 match.
