The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had one of the worst seasons in the 2025 Indian Premier League. On Friday, April 25, they dropped their seventh game of the season to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk). This season, the “Yellow Brigade” is still lingering near the bottom of the table.
The five-time champs’ difficulties this season have been discussed by experts. Among them is Ambati Rayudu, a former CSK player and six-time IPL champion who has been evaluating the team’s problems.
Rayudu has described this poor season as a learning opportunity and stated that they will be trying to form a new team and look to progress with the game, despite the other experts’ severe condemnation of the team. Rayudu also highlighted the team’s strengths, including players like Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre, who have had some excellent starts this year.
“I understand that it’s the lowest of lows, but CSK is also learning a lot from it.

Even MS Dhoni has admitted that the game has changed, and I have no doubt that he is already considering assembling a squad for the upcoming campaign.

Rayudu also discussed the team’s batting problems, which have prevented them from getting going. The CSK team has scored a few 20s, 30s, and 40s, but there haven’t been many innings that have won games. The players’ shot selection, which Rayudu has referred to as a trial for the upcoming season, is less important than the intent.
“If anything, there aren’t enough shots being played, so I don’t think there’s any uncertainty in the shot selection. It is taking longer than it should for the batters. The current situation is more of a trial run for the upcoming season, and the personnel change was necessary. The former wicketkeeper-batter came to the conclusion, “I don’t think CSK can carry forward most of their current squad—at best, seven or eight players might be retained.”
