Alan Wilkins has enjoyed his time as a cricket commentator since 1984 and is regarded as one of the best commentators in the sport. But in a sad health update for the former Welsh cricket player, the 71-year-old was found to have throat cancer. Wilkins, however, has finally successfully fought the terrible illness and will resume his commentary work for the Indian Premier League 2025.
In this season, Alan Wilkins’ voyage will begin at the storied Eden Gardens with the match between the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
For the first time this season, the Wilkins will take the mic at the game on Sunday, May 4 in the afternoon at Kolkata’s ancient site. For all of the ardent cricket fans who watch the game on TV, this is fantastic news because the commentator is exceptional.
In a message on Friday, Wilkins provided an update on X, formerly known as Twitter, and verified the development through his social media username. “India 🌮🇳 is on the way! @IPL Opening Sunday at Eden Gardens! On his Twitter, he said, “@BCCI KKR vs RR #TATAIPL2025 #BackToIndia.”

Regarding Sunday’s match, KKR has little chance of finishing in the top four and earning a spot in the 2025 playoffs. Throughout the tournament, the reigning champions have had a patchy season, dropping some important home games. The three-time winners are presently eighth on the IPL 2025 Points Table with four victories from nine games, but a victory over the Royals might move them up to the top.
Since they have already been eliminated from the ten-team tournament, RR, led by Riyan Parag, will be fighting for pride. Following their terrible defeat to the Mumbai Indians on Thursday, the 2008 champions were eliminated from the playoff race.
