[Watch] IPL 2025: Shubman Gill in heated exchange with umpire after DRS call overturned

Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad are now playing in IPL 2025 Match No. 51 in Ahmedabad’s massive Narendra Modi Stadium. During the game, GT captain Shubman Gill and on-field umpire Kannur Swaroopanand got into a heated argument over a contentious DRS call.

Earlier, Shubman Gill scored 76 off 38 balls to help Titans reach 224/6 in their 20 overs.

Even though SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma got off to a strong start, the host team appeared to be in a strong position in the second innings as their bowlers applied pressure. With Abhishek remaining at the crease at 69* (38), SRH was 127/2 at the end of 14 overs, still requiring 98 runs from 36 balls.

But in the 14th over of SRH’s chase, the heated exchange occurred. GT decided to consider an LBW appeal against Abhishek following Prasidh Krishna’s yorker that struck him on the toe. Replays revealed the ball was striking the stumps and the impact was an umpire’s call, hence GT was able to keep the review. However, the location of the pitch was not shown by the ball-tracking device.

Following the ruling, the GT captain was observed having a protracted and heated argument with umpire Swaroopanand. The absence of pitching data in the DRS images appeared to irritate the Punjab batsman, even though the team had not lost their review. To help his Indian buddy relax, Abhishek also stepped in. At last, Gill smiled and put a stop to the argument.
