The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) supporters are once again questioning whether this will be MS Dhoni’s final season when the IPL 2025 season returns after a brief break caused by tensions between India and Pakistan.
The renowned captain has not yet informed the CSK administration of his retirement plans, though, according to a Times of India story. According to reports, the 43-year-old, who has been a symbol of the team since the league’s founding, is thinking about staying on through the 2026 campaign. The CSK camp thinks he has more left in him, despite the fact that many thought this might be his final season.
The former champions are wallowing at the bottom of the points standings after having a lacklustre IPL 2025 season. Dhoni returned to captaincy after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined in the middle of the season with an elbow ailment. CSK’s administration is adamant about Dhoni’s inclusion, not only as a lower-order batsman or wicketkeeper but also as a mentor leading a youthful team, despite criticism over his age and poor batting form.
The franchise’s insiders believe that MS Dhoni decision to leave now has too many drawbacks.
CSK’s 2025 campaign has been subpar despite the addition of players like Jamie Overton, Deepak Hooda, and Rahul Tripathi. Young players like Dewald Brevis, Urvil Patel, and Ayush Mhatre, however, have showed some potential as they have excelled in the latter stretch of the season. In order for the young players to win matches in the future, the CSK management believes they need a mentor like Dhoni.
This season, Dhoni’s fitness has been a plus. Dhoni, who has struggled with knee problems in past tournaments, has taken wickets in every match and even contributed with important lower-order runs. His close followers thought his body had fared better this year.
