In Match 62 of the current Indian Premier League between the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 20, MS Dhoni was dismissed due to a reflex catch held onto by Tushar Deshpande. The fifth delivery of the 20th over of the first innings ended Dhoni’s 17-ball 16-run effort.
The CSK captain forcefully redirected Akash Madhwal’s low full-toss outside off stump in the direction of the short fine leg area. Tushar Deshpande, a former CSK player, instinctively raised his hands.
Due to the ball’s tremendous momentum as it approached Deshpande, it became trapped, causing him to lose his equilibrium and collapse. Madhwal’s third stroke of the night was this one.

Speaking of the first innings, after 20 overs, CSK finished with a score of 187/8. On 42, just as the powerplay was about to conclude, Ayush Mhatre had to step back despite looking in promising form (20). The combined total of Devon Conway, Urvil Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja was just 14 runs.
After CSK’s early collapse, which saw them lose half of their team by the eighth over, Dewald Brevis (42 off 25) and Shivam Dube (39 off 32) put up a 59-run partnership in just 36 deliveries. Madhwal stood out among the bowlers for RR. The right-armer’s four-over session saw him record figures of 3/29. Wanindu Hasaranga was also good with the ball, scoring 1 in 27 overs.
This game will be RR’s final league game of IPL 2025. CSK will end their season with a clash against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 25. If RR lose this game, they will end up finishing in 10th place. If that happens, it will be the second time that RR end up with a wooden spoon finish.
