South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has voiced his excitement for the IPL 2025 final, adding that he will celebrate if Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) win their first IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The former RCB stalwart had an impressive partnership with Virat Kohli during his playing days, and he has stated that he will make every effort to attend the celebrations and personally congratulate Kohli.
“I’ll celebrate and try to get into the changing room to give Virat a big hug,” AB de Villiers
RCB advanced to the final after a strong performance over PBKS in Qualifier 1 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. However, PBKS rebounded impressively, defeating five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) on June 1 to advance to the final.
The former South African international, who hit over 5,000 runs in the IPL, is still a legendary figure in the league. His legendary partnerships with Kohli helped set countless records, and he remains committed to the team even after retirement. Kohli has been in great form throughout the IPL 2025, amassing 614 runs at an outstanding average of 55.81. He now ranks fifth in the Orange Cap race.
RCB entered the competition under new leadership, with Rajat Patidar leading the way. They finished second in the points standings with 19 points and advanced to the final for the first time in nine years. On the other hand, PBKS, led by Shreyas Iyer, produced an impressive return this season. Under his captaincy, the squad made the playoffs after 11 years and finished first in the table.
Both franchises are aiming for their first-ever title in the marquee event, which started in 2008. After 18 seasons of the cash-rich league, the IPL 2025 will finally see a new champion crowned.
