The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. RCB advanced to the final after overcoming PBKS in Qualifier 1, while the Punjab-based team rebounded to overcome five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday.
With the duel between PBKS and MI already causing rain at Motera, speculation is growing about possible rain on the day of the final.
However, the organisers have braced for weather disruptions; a reserve day on June 4 has been set aside in case rain spoils play on the scheduled day. Additionally, there is a provision for 120 minutes of extra time on both days to accommodate any rain delay, after which the overs are forfeited – here, at 9:30 PM IST.
Furthermore, the cut-off time for a five-overs-a-side game is 11.56 PM IST, and if the rain continues, the play will be moved to the Reserve Day, which is June 4. The same cut-off hours and playing standards apply to Reserve Day as well; however, if the additional day is similarly rained out, the game will be cancelled.
What if rain interrupts play on both Match Day and Reserve Day?
According to IPL rules, in such a case, the team with the highest points total at the end of the league stage is proclaimed the victor. If no result is possible on both days, Shreyas Iyer‘s PBKS, who finished first in the points table with 19 points, will win the IPL 2025 trophy.
“16.11.2 – If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the League table (in accordance with clause 16.10) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” according to the playing condition law.
The stage has already been set for the highly anticipated final, with both PBKS and RCB, two clubs who have been part of the IPL for 18 years, vying for their first IPL title. The fans and the cricketing world are anticipating the historic achievement.
