India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, expressed great grief over the deadly stampede that occurred in Bengaluru during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) win celebrations on June 4. The attack killed 11 people and injured several others, making it one of the city’s saddest days.
Gautam Gambhir described the occurrence as terrible and strongly cautioned against organising roadshows in the future. He emphasised that everyone concerned must accept responsibility, and that every life is valuable. He added that if we are not equipped to safely manage a roadshow, we should not hold one.
“I don’t think we should conduct road shows. In the future, we will be more certain about this. My heart goes out to those who lost their life. We are all equally liable for this. All I can say is that we need to be responsible. Every life counts. If we are not prepared to organise a roadshow, we should not do so.
“You cannot lose 11 people,” Gautam Gambhir remarked at a press conference.
Following their IPL 2025 title victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad, RCB planned a celebratory tour in Bengaluru. However, as lakhs of supporters gathered on the streets and around the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the situation quickly became out of control due to insufficient police presence and poor planning. What began as a celebration turned tragically into a stampede, killing and injuring many others.
RCB released an official statement on their social media sites, expressing their great sadness over the occurrence. They acknowledged the awful loss of life and the pain felt by their followers. The franchise has provided financial assistance of INR 10 lakh apiece to the relatives of the dead.
“The sad tragedy in Bengaluru yesterday caused a lot of agony and pain for the RCB family. As a symbol of respect and solidarity, RCB has announced a financial assistance of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased,” the IPL franchise stated on official X Twitter.
