Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, spoke out about the tragedy that transpired outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory celebrations on Wednesday, June 4. He stated that the BCCI would do all possible to prevent a similar stampede-like situation from occurring again in the future.
He asked for the BCCI to intervene and actively participate in addressing the recent upheaval.
“BCCI will eventually have to do something. We cannot remain mute spectators. It was a private matter for the RCB, but we as.
The BCCI are responsible for cricket throughout India, and we will attempt to prevent similar events in the future,” Devajit Saikia
A day earlier, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed his thoughts on the situation. He criticised events like the one that was prevented from happening again.
“When I was playing, I didn’t really believe in roadshows. I don’t believe in them now or in the future. Winning is essential, as are celebrations, but what matters most is a person’s life. So, if we are not prepared, or if we are unable to control the throng in that manner, these roadshows should be cancelled,” he said.
For those unfamiliar, the festivities had turned tragic outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. The mayhem claimed the lives of 11 supporters and injured hundreds more. There has been a national pushback to this. The Karnataka State Government has taken swift action against both the police and the RCB administration. Several arrests have been made in connection with the case.
On Friday, one official from RCB and three from DNA Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the event management company, were taken into police custody. Later, they were sent to a 14-day judicial custody. The Karnataka High Court, however, granted interim relief to the KSCA officials, in other words, providing them protection from arrest.
