According to reports, the Australian squad was denied entry to the Lord’s training facility as they prepared for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final, which begins on Wednesday, June 11.
According to the story, the Australian squad was informed that the training ground at Lord’s was unavailable.
The specific reason for Pat Cummins and Co.’s denial of access is unknown, however it has been reported that members of the Indian team, who are in England for a five-match Test series, were training at the Home of Cricket.
According to Fox Cricket, the Indian squad was permitted to train at Lord’s “at the expense of the Australian team” while Cummins’ men were ‘booted out’ of the renowned site. The article also stated that, while the WTC final begins on Wednesday, the Indian team’s first Test against England is scheduled for June 20. The third Test between India and England will take place at Lord’s on July 10.
After initially being rejected, the Australian team was eventually granted access to the training grounds, where they were able to get some much-needed practice ahead of this week’s match against a resurgent Proteas side.
Pat Cummins later discussed the reigning champions’ preparations, plans, and the criticism they face every time they play at Lord’s.
“I believe this is the nicest version of the stadium so far this morning. There is no one nearby, which is amazing. “I’m sure it’ll be much more civil this time,” Cummins told NDTV.
“Things got pretty heated in the middle of that Ashes series, but I think a lot of them will have learnt their lesson and I’m sure they’ll be very polite,” the cricketer said.
South Africa won their last seven Tests to make it to the WTC final. Meanwhile, Australia are coming off an impressive 3-1 win against India at home to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Fans are waiting with bated breath for the start of the third WTC final, with New Zealand and Australia emerging victorious in the first two editions, respectively.
