Keshav Maharaj dismissed Alex Carey on the first ball of the 52nd over on Day 1 of the World Test Championship final for the 2023-25 cycle at Lord’s. The southpaw was dismissed shortly after the first ball was delivered following Tea.
Alex Carey took a calculated shot and absolutely missed the ball. The ball snuck under his willow. The complete ball was pitched and spun from off stump to peg the middle stump. Carey had to step back after registering 23 of 31 deliveries.
Maharaj was introduced into the game in the 36th over of the day, after the four pacers had taken four wickets. Carey’s wicket was the sixth to fall for Australia. Earlier that day, South Africa invited the Pat Cummins-led team to bat.

After the wicketkeeper-batter’s departure, the Proteas quickly wrapped up the opposition’s innings. Pat Cummins (one off six), Beau Webster (72 off 92), Nathan Lyon (zero off four), and Mitchell Starc (one off 12) all fell quickly as Australia were bowled out for 212 in 56.4 overs.
Usman Khawaja was the first batter to leave after facing 20 deliveries. He went back for a duck. Kagiso Rabada, who finished with five wickets, dismissed Cameron Green in the same over (four from three). Steve Smith and Webster worked together to put together an important stand.
Rabada surpassed Donald to attain a big milestone.
Fiery bowler Kagiso Rabada, who scored his 17th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, surpassed the legendary Allan Donald to become South Africa’s fourth best wicket-taker. He also became the third South African bowler to record multiple five-wicket hauls at Lord’s. Donald and Makhaya Ntini are the two other bowlers who have accomplished the same feat.
