South Africa won the World Test Championship Final 2025 under Temba Bavuma’s outstanding leadership. South Africa’s captain delivered a key performance during the chase in the fourth innings, putting them in a comfortable position and finally helping them win their first ICC title after 27 years. His captaincy and batting skills, despite a hamstring tightness, made him a global hero as the Proteas made history.
After obtaining the coveted ICC Test Mace, which is granted to WTC winners, Bavuma was seen imitating a round of shooting with it. After the decisive victory, Bavuma maintained a straight expression while expressing his excitement at winning the major red-ball event. The Proteas captain also praised Kagiso Rabada (nine wickets in the match) and Aiden Markram (136 in the second innings) for outstanding performances in the game that meant the most to the Rainbow Nation.
“It’s been a remarkable couple of days; at times, it felt like we were in South Africa. We worked hard to prepare, and we came in with both confidence and doubt; we’re delighted we played well. This is a special time for us and those back home, and it will most likely soak in over the next few days. The enthusiasm was there, and I believe we as a team had been seeking this. We’ve been relentless, continually arriving at the doorstep despite experiencing heartache; the sun has been with us. “Hopefully, this is the first of many victories,” Bavuma said afterward.
“KG is a tremendous player; I went to the Hall of Fame inductees a couple of days ago, and I believe he will be there in a few years. Came into the game amidst controversy and performed what he did. Aiden is unbelievable; some have questioned his position, but he has character. He played Aiden in the truest sense; he and Rabada carried the persona. We made it to the final, and while there were some who questioned our path, this victory puts those doubts to rest. Here’s an opportunity for our divided nation to come together. “You can be sure we’ll celebrate as one,” he said.
