Irfan Pathan, a former Indian cricketer, expressed his displeasure with Prasidh Krishna’s economy rate following the conclusion of the first Test in the ongoing five-match series between England and India. Prasidh conceded 220 runs in 35 overs while claiming five wickets in both innings.
Irfan pushed Prasidh to be adaptable to certain batters in the future, underlining that he possessed the characteristics like as height and pace to succeed in the red-ball format for a long time. He also compared his economy rate in the game to that of Bumrah in T20 cricket.
“Just look at his economy in both innings. He is ranked second in terms of the worst economy for a fast bowler ever. Bumrah has a T20 economy of almost 6.50 [6.88]. As a result, he must prioritise his finances. He stands tall and moves quickly.
He would need to learn as soon as possible how to bowl a consistent area based on the batter,” Irfan Pathan said on Sony Sports.
In the second innings, Karim performed significantly better.
Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim joined Irfan in reviewing the game. He agreed with Irfan’s point and emphasised that Prasidh needed to work hard to land the ball in the right spots more frequently.
“He is leaking a lot of runs.” That is not how things will turn out. In the second innings, the performance improved significantly. He bowled well in various situations. As Irfan mentioned, he adjusted his length and profited as a result. However, he is still bowling too wide or too short at times. “He needs to work hard on that,” Karim commented.
India were defeated by five wickets when Ben Stokes‘ players chased down 371 in the fourth innings. Prasidh had the third-worst economy rate (6.28) among bowlers who had bowled at least 35 overs in a single Test for at least twenty overs.
The second game of the series will take place at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium. It will be interesting to watch what changes the team makes following the crushing defeat. Prasidh is likely to make the XI. It would be interesting to see how the Shubman Gill-led team reacts to the defeat and whether any replacements for the pace assault are picked.
