Bangladesh’s head coach, Phil Simmons, who accompanied the team on their current tour to Sri Lanka, will be visiting the United Kingdom for a short time. He will fly to London to visit physicians about his medical condition and is anticipated to return to the island nation on July 7.
Prior to the formal announcement, there were reports that Simmons had been requested to meet with Aminul Islam, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for a performance evaluation of the coaching staff. However, it was not the case. According to team authorities, Simmons reported his travel plans to management well in advance, and they were allowed, given that he would return in three days.
“Phil Simmons is going on a two-day tour for personal reasons.”
He had a doctor’s appointment in February, but he missed it because of the Champions Trophy. The physicians’ appointment cannot be modified at this time. He tried to modify it, but was unable to do so. Before the tour began, he discussed this with the board and made appropriate plans. He is going today and returning on July 7th,” said Nafees Iqbal, the team’s manager on the tour, as quoted by.
Bangladesh lost the second Test of the recently finished two-match series despite fighting courageously for a draw in the series opener. A spectacular batting collapse in the opening ODI of the series saw the visitors lose seven wickets for five runs, leaving them behind the three-match ODI series by 77 runs.
They will take on Sri Lanka in the second ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, July 5. The match is slated to commence at 2:30 pm (IST). The two sides will compete in a three-match T20I series after the conclusion of the 50-over format to wrap up the all-format assignment. The Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led unit will be keen on making a comeback into the ongoing 50-over series, before the action moves on to 20-over games.
