It was a historic day for cricket in the United States, as teams assembled an exciting mix of international stars and emerging talents during the inaugural Super60 USA Tournament, which took place on Friday. Notable names included Martin Guptill, Wayne Parnell, Varun Aaron, and Lendl Simmons.
Teams had already committed to eight players as part of their pre-signings. During the draft, they were able to select seven to ten more players.
The LA Strikers had already signed huge players like Aaron Finch, Isuru Udana, and Ben Dunk as pre-signings. During the draft, they added Gurkeerat Mann, a dynamic all-rounder noted for his good strike rate and useful off-spin. The club also brought in experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Naman Ojha and seasoned medium-pacer Parvinder Awana, indicating a desire to develop a well-rounded side with depth in all areas.
Morrisville Fighters built a strong core by signing two of India’s best bowlers, Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel. They strengthened their batting lineup by recruiting Shaun Marsh. The franchise expanded on its strong foundation with the acquisitions of powerhouse all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, speedster Sheldon Cottrell, and seasoned campaigner Faiz Fazal.
The Rebel Warriors made a statement at the draft after signing Martin Guptill and Lendl Simmons one after the other. The two hitters are known for their aggressiveness and will play an important part in getting the squad off to a fast start. They also have Saurabh Tiwary, whom they recruited during the pre-signings period to provide aggression to the batting department, while Mitchell Johnson’s experience with the ball will be critical to Rebel’s success.
Chicago Players, who already had luminaries Suresh Raina and Jacques Kallis on their roster, added Wayne Parnell, Varun Aaron, and Devendra Bishoo to their bowling unit.
The Detroit Falcons entered the draft with a clear game plan: to stock their roster with quality all-around players. With Shakib Al Hasan already on the roster, they recruited Mossaddek Hossain and Ariful Haque, two dependable players with strong domestic histories.
The Washington Tigers’ batting lineup includes Parthiv Patel, Chris Lynn, and Ravi Bopara, providing plenty of experience and punch up top. On the bowling front, they’ll look to Abhimanyu Mithun, Dan Christian, and Shahbaz Nadeem to get the job done and put the opposition at bay.
